Betty Joanne Studer
March 1, 1931 ~ January 1, 2018
Joanne Studer, 86-years-old and a long-time resident of Vienna, VA died Monday the 1st of January 2018 at the Haymarket Medical Center. Joanne was the loving mother of Tina Tisinger and Tony (JoAnne) Studer; sister of Jack Wright; cherished grandmother of Daniel (Sarah) Tisinger and Diana (Shawn) Kolodgie. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Grace, Kaytlin and Addison Tisinger, and Charlotte Kolodgie.
Joanne was born in Washington, D.C. to Audrey and Irvin Wright, grew up in Arlington, VA and graduated from Washington & Lee High School where she attended many of her high school reunions. She raised her family in Falls Church, VA before moving to the Stonewall Manor community in Vienna, where she resided for nearly 50 years. She also lived in London England and Wiesbaden Germany, and traveled extensively throughout Europe.
Joanne was a mother and homemaker and was devoted to helping others. Joanne received multiple community service awards for her years of contributions, to include Meals on Wheels and platelet donations. Joanne had an entertaining sense of humor and loved making people laugh. She attended a program to become a professional clown and was named “Tooter.” As a clown she marched in parades, volunteered her time at local hospitals visiting the children's wards and emergency rooms, and participated in the Christmas Fantasy Flights at Dulles Airport for disabled children. She bowled on a neighborhood league for decades, served her Church through the Ladies Auxiliary, and was an enthusiastic member of both Totally Eccentric Adventurous Red Hatters and Clowning Around.
Joanne loved socializing, and was known for her whit and ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers. Joanne’s greatest joy came from being with her family. She displayed a flag on her home to show her enthusiasm for every holiday and Redskins game. She was very proud of her family and was their number one fan at all of their sporting events, with a cowbell in one hand and kazoo in the other. She was always ready for a family road trip or Red Hatter adventure. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach and going on annual cruises to the Caribbean.
Relatives and friends are invited to Joanne's Life celebration at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, VA on Thursday, January 4 from 6-8 PM. A Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 8601 Wolf Trap Rd., Vienna, VA on Friday, January 5 at 10:30 AM. A light reception will precede the Mass at 9:30 AM in the DeSales Hall. Interment will follow the Mass at National Memorial Park.

I remember Joanne as such a kind person with a wonderful sense of humor. She was a good friend and I was honored to have know her.
Tina and family, I am so sorry to hear of Joanne’s passing. I will cherish all my memories of clowning with TOOTER. My deepest condolences and prayers.
While I haven’t seen Tooter in a while due to my moving out of the area, I used to love clowning with her in parades she was always very sweet and welcoming. She will no doubt be missed terribly by all of us. Praying for your family.
I have so many fond memories of Aunt Joanne…but the ones I will cherish the most are the Easter Holidays that we all spent together while growing up. She was kind and loving person and would do anything to help someone out. I am so proud to have called her my Aunt and Godmother. We will miss her very much.

I had such fun memories with you. I loved when you came to my tea party and grandparents day at my school. You taught me how to play dominoes. You were always silly. I will make your apple pie everything thanksgiving for you to carry the tradition. I love you.

Such a nice lady. Smart and sassy and exactly what one wants in a grandmother. She will be missed and our thoughts go out to her family.
