Frederick Charles Goins, age 61, of Vienna, VA passed away on Sunday May 6, 2018. Beloved husband of Herminia Goins; devoted father to Frederick Goins; brother of Claudia Schreiber (Michael), Margaret Burke (Harold), and Richard Goins (Yvette). Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 8601 Wolftrap Road, Vienna, VA on Friday May 11 from 9 to 10 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.moneyandking.com

In 1968 I spent the summer in Hyattsville, and Freddy was guide to all things in life: he a worldly 11, and I a lad of 7. First things first: he insisted that I read ONLY Marvel comics. In fact, I read his whole collection that summer. I was only permitted to BUY Marvel comics from then on: no more DC, no more Charleston, no more Gold Key (seriously, Gold Key had Samson of Newark and Magnus: Robot Fighter). The wit and wisdom of Stan Lee was delivered to me by Freddy, the art of Jack Kirby. Years later Freddy was trying to raise money for a car and was so disgusted by the prices offered for his comic collection that he sent me a big wad of it to teach everybody a lesson. Still have them–lots of Avengers and Thor–Thor was his guy. I am sad at his passing, but it was guys like Freddy who shared what they knew mattered in the world with kid cousins that make a difference. Just saw the Avengers film again last night–the Marvel universe has now become the biggest show in the world, Freddy knew it would happen. Happy trails, man.
