John M. Byrne, age 87, died on November 13, 2017 at his home in Reston, VA. He was the beloved husband of Eileen Byrne; brother of Joe Byrne, Eddie Byrne, and Anne Marie Donovan; step-father of Karen Reed and Joe Vopelak; grandfather of Sam and Sophia Reed; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to a funeral mass at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 11900 Lawyers Road, Reston, VA on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow at the family home in Reston.

John was a dear friend! I so enjoyed conversing with him about our latest reads! I visited with him several weeks ago. We discussed favorite books. His face lit up as we talked. He also was an eloquent writer. He had written a comforting, articulate letter to me and my family when my father passed eight years ago. I will also remember him through his love of birds and plants.
My deepest sympathy to Eileen, Karen, Joe, Sophia, and Sam.
