Lorraine Rude Henninger

Lorraine Rude Henninger died peacefully Friday, June 8, 2018 at her home in McLean, Va, one day after celebrating her 75thwedding anniversary to Richard G. Henninger. She was 95 years old.
The first of three children of Chester and Lorraine Rude, “Lorry” was born on September 12, 1922, and grew up in Los Angeles, California. As a junior at the University School in Pasadena, she made an impression on Richard Henninger when he saw her disappointment at receiving a “B” in chemistry. The two married five years later on June 7, 1943.
Mrs. Henninger was a 1944 graduate of Stanford University. At the conclusion of World War II, she and her husband settled in Northern Virginia where they raised five children. Her extensive volunteer work included serving as president of Langley School and helping to found the Fairfax YWCA. After being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 1966, she participated in numerous studies to develop new treatments at NIH. She continued to work as an accountant at Arthur Young and Karloid Corporation and was Vice President of NCI Realty in Reston and Henninger Media Services in Arlington.
Lorraine Henninger had a prodigious memory for the people, places and foods she loved. Looking back on her life, she titled her memoirs, “A Love Story.” She will live forever in the hearts of her husband, Richard, her children Richard Jr. (wife Yuki), Robert (wife Renee), Alice (husband Jim Menks), Jeffrey, and James (wife Wendy), 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and the many people she inspired with her strength and grace.
Family visitation will be at Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna from 6-8 p.m., Friday, June 15. Services will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in McLean, on Saturday, June 16, at 11 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church or to the charity of your choice. I am so sorry for your loss. May the words of our loving heavenly Father bring your family comfort and strength during this most difficult time as He promises to bring our loved ones back to life in a perfect world where there will be no more suffering or death (John 5:28-29 & Revelation 21:4).
I just will never forget her for so many reasons- her strength, kindness and courage. She never failed to ask how I was when we were together. Jim and I had long planned a weekend to celebrate our upcoming anniversary so we will not be able to be at the viewing or the funeral.
I love you Aunt Lorry. You are with God now, and hopefully my father was there to greet you. I thank you and Uncle Richard for all the memories over the years. Especially the lasting memory you shared with me on FaceTime most recently. It was very touching and will forever be my memory of the two of you together. Love Jan
