Michael S. Hirsch “Mike” (Age 78) Of Vienna, VA and formerly of Philadelphia PA on Thursday August 2, 2018, at his home. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth “Betsy” Hirsch; father to Sara W. Dunton and Carole M. Hirsch; son of Joseph Hirsch and Betty Henken and grandfather (Zeyde) to Amber, Brooke, Sabrina and Ashleigh. Family and friends are invited to Quantico National Cemetery on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 10 am for his graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Homeless Animals, PO Box 415 Aldie, VA 20105. A reception and life celebration will follow immediately after at Sara’s home: 3803 Cameron Mills Road, Alexandria 22305. We will miss seeing Mike with his dogs in the front of the house, trimming that tall, fast-growing bush by the driveway and receiving Rosh Hashanah cards from him. He was a great neighbor and friend and we are sure he was a great husband and father as well. He will be missed.

I first met Mike 30 years ago when he was on the Army Staff and took on the task of setting up my briefings for an assignment in Malaysia. He went the extra mile and arranged for me to fly to Fort Monroe so I could meet the folks I’d be working with, which proved immensely helpful. Later, when I returned to the States and was assigned to the Pentagon in DCSOPS, Mike was my DCSLOG colleague working Asia-Pacific issues. After I retired I became a fellow Army Civilian and worked with him once again. He was a true professional and a great guy to work with. My condolences to his family, Jim Hales
