In his early years he attended Yonkers High School and graduated from Central Connecticut University in 1966 with a degree in Psychology.

He was a natural born leader and athlete playing collegiate football and later became an avid golfer. Ray leaves behind three children Meredith, Melissa, and Michael and loving wife Janet Meisels, nieces Katie, Janet, Pam, and Meredith and five grandchildren Hailey, Zoe, Rhys, Elijah, and Owen. He was an amazing father, uncle and grandfather and will be missed. Ray was a great mentor and friend making an impact in many people’s lives. He worked as a civil servant for forty-two years.

Dad was our hero and guide through this life. A man that was so true to his word and his family. A man with a soft front and strong back. A provider of care and home---something we strive to be.

  12. Ray’s family ~ I wish you peace and blessing during this time of healing. The SSA family has lost a gentle giant who was a true leader that motivated and mentored many. 13. Dear Meisels Family:
Ray was a tremendous leader for the National Hearing Center. As a judge with the NHC in Albuquerque for 9 years he has been our director, I valued his leadership. I recall my last conversation with him and his words of encouragement and mentorship to me as Acting Chief Judge for our office. Great man! He will be missed.
Peace to your entire family as you process his loss.
    Best regards,
    Deborah Jacobson Van Vleck

  16. Ray undoubtedly is among the best of the best. I have enjoyed my relatively short time I spent in his presence; what a role model. I will miss him. Our prayer is that his family and friends find strength in this pain we feel. David Smith

  17. I was not prepared for how much this would hurt, so my focus has been on all the good memories of Ray over the 40 plus years I have know him – the golf and golf stories, work discussions, family discussions and frankly just being in his presence. Peace, my friend; keep it in the “short grass” and may all your golf shots now be like the Ace you were. Ralph Smith

  18. Dear Ray,
I am so blessed to call you our friend. Thank you for being at our wedding- I appreciate you and your wife so much. Thank you and your wife for being my daughter’s emergency contact when she was @ Howard. Thank you for your professional guidance and advice-you taught me so much. I am so blessed to have had you as my mentor here @SSA. Thank you for being my MLB/NFL (fan) coach, advising me to be a proud New Yorker, not letting my hubby (Cowboys/Orioles fan) convert me-ha! never Ray-I promise. And thank you for teaching me some football/baseball trash talk! GOOO GIANTS! GOOO YANKEES! ALWAYS- Love, Ruthie “Ruththetruth” and Shawn

  23. Dear Meredith, Melissa, and Michael,

I am so sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. I have sweet memories of he and your Mom dating, and those Ruyack Boys ribbing him which he took all in stride. Of course there are the great times from the family reunion in Myrtle Beach. I remember him as: quiet, thoughtful, good natured, and very smart. I also felt a kinship with him for obvious reasons. Lisa remembers Uncle Raymond as well and send her condolences.

    With Love,
    Aunt Alice, Lisa, and David

  24. To the Meisels Family, it saddens my heart to learn of Ray’s homegoing. Indeed, I will fondly remember him taking the time to mentor me over lunch and the kind and gentle smile he always seemed to display over the eight plus years we worked together at the Falls Church, Virginia NHC. I think you already know Ray was an extraordinarily kind and just man. May The Lord be kind to and have mercy on his soul. Deepest sympathy, Joseph L. Brinkley

  25. My heart is so broken for all of you. Of all the people I have met in my life Ray was the nicest, kindest gentleman. May his influence on his children be passed on. And Janet your love for each other was so obvious!
With love and sadness, Nancy Gagnon and Ken Dement

  26. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I will always have fond memories of Ray. Over the years Ray and I have shared stories regarding our families, spiritual beliefs and work experiences. I believe he left everlasting memories with every life he touched during his journey here on earth. May God Bless the Family.

  27. Ray was a gentleman, good coach, and great friend. 8 years ago, he and his golf threesome adopted me into their group. It’s been 8 years of Saturday morning rounds, many starting with Ray checking in with Janet (hi, doll, ….) before the first tee. We have missed Ray these past several months; the game simply isn’t as fun without him. One comfort is that Ray scored a hole-in-one during his last few months of play. While from a golfer’s perspective that’s a good way to end the game, his passing was far too early.

  28. Ray, thank you for your guidance, kindness and sincere desire to want me to succeed. It was an honor and a great privilege to be your mentee. I will always treasure your guidance and gr8 laugh and save it in memory forever. We loved you, but God loved you more. May you Rest In Peace. Louisah
