William A. Clarke “Bill”, age 100, of Fairfax, VA and formerly of Jamestown, RI, passed away peacefully on Friday December 1, 2017 with his family at his side. Beloved husband of the late Ruth Clarke; devoted father of Sharon Clarke, William Clarke III, and the late Thomas Clarke; brother of Russell Clarke, Richard Clarke, Winnifred Russell, Ida Dalrymple, and Penelope Clarke. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Christine Clarke (Jamie), Adam Clarke (Tessa), Rolf Clarke, Lianna Clarke, three great-grandchildren, Adalyn Grace, Raven, Jamie, and many nieces and nephews.
Bill’s career as an airline mechanic began in Washington DC in 1943 with Penn Central Airlines which merged with Capital Airlines which was acquired by United Airlines from which retired in 1978. He was an Honored Lifetime Member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Bill’s love for flying led him to obtain his pilot’s license and co-own a small aircraft. An avid golfer and sailor, Bill loved owning his own boat. As a Jimmy Buffet fan, Bill also enjoyed the Buffet “sailing lifestyle”. Bill was devoted to his faith as well. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for over 50 years. Bill loved his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to Bill’s Life Celebration at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 West Maple Ave., Vienna, VA on Wednesday December 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 8922 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax, VA on Thursday December 7 at 11 a.m. A reception at Bethlehem Lutheran will immediately follow the service. I hope you draw comfort from these memories, comfort from family and friends, and comfort from God during this difficult time, and know that by means of a resurrection, God is eager to restore life to those who have fallen asleep in death (John 5:28, 29).
