Afy Khamnei

Afy Khamnei peacefully departed to the Kingdom of Heaven on February 27th, 2025, at her assisted living home in Vienna, Va. Afy was born on January 27th, 1941, in Zanjan, Iran. After graduating high school in Tehran, Afy married her late husband, Bahram Khamnei, and the shortly thereafter traveled to the United States to enroll at the Ohio State University, where Afy enrolled in Education and her husband studied aeronautical engineering. During her college tenure, Afy gave birth to her son, Fred.

Upon her husband’s completion of undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ohio State, Afy, Bahram and Fred moved back to Iran where they lived full time from 1965 to 1974. In 1975, the three moved from Iran to the United States and officially called Arlington, Virginia their new home. They would go on to split time between the United States, Europe, and Iran, until the Iranian Revolution of 1979.

Afy’s husband tragically passed away in 1982 at the age of 39, and she lived out the remainder of her life as a homemaker in Arlington, Virginia as well as Palm Beach/Highland Beach, Florida. In the 1990’s Afy mwt Nasser Mehr in Florida, who would go on to become her life partnes, a second father to her son, and a second grandfather to her grandchildren. Afy was a devoted, loving and selfless mother and grandmother, whose memory will always be cherished by the Khamnei Family and the many friends her life touched.

Afy is survived by her life partner Nasser, son Fred, granddaughter Emil, and grandson Bahram. Afy’s burial will be held on Friday, March 7th at 1:00 PM at Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
