Agnes Manook

November 18, 1929 ~ August 31, 2015
Our beloved aunt Agnes lost her battle with cancer on Monday, August 31st, 2015 at home surrounded by her close family members and loved ones.
She was born in November of 1929 in Baghdad, Iraq. Her Father Mr. Chater was a senior accountant who worked for the Iraqi Petroleum Co. in Iraq first in Kirkuk and then in Baghdad for decades.
Agnes grew up with her only sibling her sister Amy, the two had a unique close relationship with each other like twins. She moved to the Capital Baghdad in the fifties to start college. Her pioneering spirit and her family's forward thinking earned her a pharmacological degree from The Royal Pharmaceutical School in Baghdad. She was distinguished and awarded by King Faisal the second as the high valedictorian amongst her graduating class in 1954.
Agnes' career started in research at the National Blood Bank as part of the Ministry of Health in Iraq. She was sent to London England to further her specialty and return to Baghdad to further her research career for many years. She then moved on to being an adjunct professor teaching microbiology at Baghdad College of Medicine until she retired. Her second career was working in the private sector, a pharmacist until her retirement.
Life opened her appetite to travel, art and history. She was happiest traveling to foreign lands with her beloved family and friends. She loved, museums, classical music, concerts and ballet performances.
She dedicated her life to caring and raising her sister's children Dina, Fareed and Sheila who are a big part of her legacy.
