Alan R. Field

February 11, 1933 ~ January 14, 2014
It is with sadness that we announce that Alan Field has passed away from ongoing complications of a stroke. Alan was a graduate of Saint Olaf College and did post-graduate work at Yale. He taught at a number of universities for years before becoming a computer programmer for the I.R.S.
Alan had many interests, such as the pragmatist philosophy of Charles S. Peirce and the ecumenical movement in Christian theology. He was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins. Shy, with a sly wit, he kept all those close to him surprised and laughing, even in difficult times. He had a gentle and generous heart. He often helped prepare and distribute meals for the poor with his beloved late wife, Marsena. He is now with her.
Alan is survived by his two sons, Carl (Grace) and Jeff, and a cherished grand-daughter. Relatives and friends are invited to Alan's Life Celebration at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, VA on Wednesday, January 22, from 12:30 PM to time of Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. Interment will be private.

I was so sorry to hear the news and only wish I had heard about it in time to have come to pay my respects. Al was a member of our car pool for many years and was always a pleasure to be around. A really great guy. We had a lot of great stories and times during our time at IRS.
