I hold wonderful memories of my Uncle Al and wish I could be with our family in VA at this difficult time.
Dear Mrs. Phelan & Phelan Family What a pleasure it has been over the last few years to become acquainted with Al. Your husband was a faithful AA volunteer at the Fairfax Adult Detention Center Pre-Release Center. We signed in at the same time as Al and he was always so kind and plesant. May the memories you have kept permanent in your memory and heart wrap you in comfort and bring you to a special peace. Please remember, the God of all comfort is always as close as a prayer.
My condolences and best wishes to Al’s family on his passing. Al was a true example to all of us that knew him thru the Unity Club and the ADC/PRC as a volunteer. His story lives on in all of us and we shall pass on his legacy as a mensch, a man among men…he will be sorely missed. Best wishes to the Phelan family at this trying time. A friend of Bill W. & Doctor Bob…sincerely, Bill Graham and my wife Jeanine, who enjoyed speaking to Al in French!
Mrs. Phelan and family, It was an honor and privilege for me to serve with Al these last eight years or so, carrying the message of recovery to those who were incarcerated. Al was a tremendous person and an outstanding asset to our Program. Within that diminutive frame was a spiritual giant. Under all and of most difficult circumstances, he always remained positive. He was truly amazing because he always came and carried the message saying how grateful he was despite the physical illness which has been devouring him for years. Even when I spoke with him a few short days before he passed, he told me how grateful he was and how he trusted in the Master. He will truly be missed. In his passing, we have lost a part of ourselves but we rejoice in the knowledge that he is at Peace in that Great Place in the Beyond. He will always be in our hearts for he left an indelible impression and he will always remain an example of what we should strive for. Our sincerest condolences and deepest sympathies for your great loss. May God bless you always as he has blessed us with Al’s presence in our lives.
