Resided in: Annandale, VA

Anita O’Dea peacefully died on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at home surrounded by her loving family and her dedicated caregivers. A native Washingtonian, Anita graduated from St. Patrick’s Academy and began her first career with the Federal Government at the Department of Commerce. She married Tom O’Dea in 1951, after he returned from WWII and completed his education. They were childhood neighbors from Foggy Bottom.

Anita initially stayed home with her three daughters and then began her second career as a Settlement Officer at the law office of Gibson, Millsap and Hansberger It was there that she instilled a work ethic in her daughters, finding each of them their first jobs in the same building.

.

Anita wore many hats as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, seamstress, and avid golfer. She was her grandchildren’s and her great grandchildren’s biggest fan attending and supporting them with all their extracurricular activities. Anita’s mantra was “keep moving” and she did so into her late 90’s. She played golf with her husband for many years and joined the 9-hole club at Jefferson District. Her golf friends were a very special group to her, including gathering for lunch long after Anita hung up her clubs. She was a faithful woman who attended St. Michael’s mass every day and volunteered making rosaries.

Anita and Tom traveled extensively, visiting her mother’s home in Ireland twice.

Anita is predeceased by her husband of 63 years and their son, Thomas Kevin. She is survived by her loving daughters, Fran (Andy) Schwind, Kathy (Chris) Willard and Dianne (Perry) Corsello, grandchildren Kevin (Andria), Andrew, Colleen (Nick), Brett (Kathleen), Alex (Justine), Chris and Morgan, great grandchildren Aubree, Tristan, Rose, Gigi, Aidan and Jay. Anita’s dear friends Caroline, Cynthia, Faliz and Toy remained by her side providing unwavering support.

Relatives and friends are invited to Anita’s Visitation at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Ave. Vienna, VA on Sunday, September 14, from 4 to 6pm. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Mrs O’Dea was someone that I always admired and looked up to. My friends and I called her the “queen.” The way she lived her life to the fullest is how I hope to live mine. To know her was to love her🩷 Sending love to the entire O’Dea family.

  2. Sending condolences from the Duvall boys, (Tim, Ted, and Terry) – your mom was a great neighbor and a friend to all. Thoughts and prayers to you all.
    All the best,
    Tim

  3. Anita was a gracious and kind woman, full of love and “Spunk!” She loved her family and cherished her friends. I admired her as she “Kept Moving” and encouraged us to do the same. Thinking about her golfing with her girls at 7am weekly for years and years always brought a smile to my face. Thank you Anita for being you. XOXO

  4. Anita was a special woman! I had the pleasure of meeting her through the JWGL Golf League. She welcomed me my first year in the league. At her 90th birthday, I gave her a gift before golf. She scolded me that you’re not suppose to give people gifts at 90. I told her she was the oldest person I knew as I never had older grandparents. From then on, she was my idol of aging gracefully and staying active. I loved finding her golf ball for her. I feel very honored to have spent some time with a distinguished and poised lady always dressed up for 7AM golf. You were loved Anita. To the family, celebrate a well lived life.

  5. On behalf of my brothers – John, Chris, and Jim – and myself, I offer condolences to Mrs. O’Dea’s lovely family, children, grandchildren, and friends. She was a wonderful neighbor and devoted Saint Michael’s fellow parishioner. We appreciated the lovely tribute in the Washington Post to a rich and full life, well lived. God bless you all.

    With sympathy,

  6. Anita was such a bright light in our world. We enjoyed many fun times together on the golf course and often solicited her for putting advice. She even gave one of us a putting lesson when she was 95 years young. We will always remember her classy style, her warm smile and her sweet soul. She was one of a kind. Rest in Peace Anita.

    Condolences to her family.

Sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. What a long wonderful life. A fellow St. Michael’s parishioner and school parent. Fond memories of classmates Kathy and Dianne.
