Born in: Delaplane, Virginia
Resided in: Harrisonburg, Virginia

Barbara Jean Taylor, nee Smith, passed away on January 17, 2026, after a brief illness. Barbara was born in Delaplane, Virginia, to Charles and Emma Smith on October 21,1937. She was the youngest girl of eight children. In a case of funny irony, her family would call her “Pokey” as a nickname that reflected her tendency to get ready so slowly early in the morning!

Barbara was married to Quentin St Clair Taylor for 52 years and together they lived in Washington D.C., Alaska, and Massachusetts before settling in Vienna, Virginia. Together they had a son, Jeffrey Q. Taylor, who lives in Luray, Virginia.

Prior to Jeffrey’s birth and after he started high school, Barbara worked various high-profile administrative positions at the Central Intelligence Agency from where she retired in 1999.

Throughout her long and meaningful life, Barbara embodied warmth, resilience and strength. Barbara was a loyal member of First Baptist Church of Vienna. She was a member of the SWAP Committee as well as serving as an Usher. She took great pride and pleasure in these endeavors. She spent her final months living at the English Meadows Assisted Living facility in Harrisonburg, VA where she made new friends and found comfort.

Barbara is predeceased by her husband Quentin, sisters Rosina and Virginia, and brothers Charles and Everett. Barbara is survived by three of her siblings, sister Dorothy and brothers James and Channing as well as her son Jeffrey and a host of extended family and friends.
