Barbara Schurr Seidel, 91, of Fairfax, Virginia passed away on January 4, 2026 at The Boulevard Post Acute in Fairfax, Virginia.

Born on April 15, 1934 in Annapolis, Maryland, Barbara was the daughter of the late Walter Schurr and Florence Talley Schurr. She was also preceded in death by her husband Louis Frederick Seidel, Jr.
After graduating from Annapolis High School in 1953, Barbara went on to earn Bachelor of Music and Masters of Music degrees in piano from the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Maryland in 1958 and 1959. Thereafter she worked as a church organist and choir director for most of the rest of her life. She met her husband, Lou, at one of her churches and they wed on November 9, 1963 and had two daughters.

Barbara and Lou lived in many different locations within the state of Maryland over the years with a short stint in Fredericksburg, Virginia. After the death of her husband in 2017, Barbara resided at Sunrise at Hunter Mill in Oakton, Virginia for eight years, and her favorite activities there were the church services–which she accompanied on piano while she was able–and Bible study. In addition to music, pet dogs were a constant joy in her life.
Barbara is survived by her daughters Kimberly Sheard (Henry) of Fairfax, Virginia and Terry Lynn Hudson (Curtis Streetman) of Nassau, the Bahamas, as well as her brother Billy Schurr (Carol) of Tucson, Arizona, and two nieces.

A memorial service will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Capital Caring Health’s hospice program.
