On November 6, 2016, Barbara Wiggins Butler, beloved wife of William P. Butler, passed away at Inova Fairfax hospital from complications following hip surgery. She is also survived by her children, David Butler of Richmond, Virginia, her daughter Lisa Irene Dolan of Falls Church, VA and her daughter Lauren Butler Beaudwin of Lusby, MD; her grandchildren, Nicole Butler Schaefer, Heather Irene Dolan, Tavis Butler, Brianne Allison, Drew Allison, Miranda Allison, Arthur Joseph Masoero, and Daniel Masoero; her two great grandchildren, Lucas and Sophia Schaefer; and her Goldendoodle Jesse Butler. A life-long Democrat, she voted absentee prior to her passing.

Barbara was born in Camden, NJ and lived in Washington, D.C., attending Emory Elementary, Langley Junior High and McKinley Technical (now Technology) High School where she met her husband. She graduated from the University of Maryland in 1955. Barbara and Bill were married in 1954, living in Vienna, Virginia and nearby Stonewall Manor since 1958.

Barbara was a member and President of the Sigma Kappa Sorority at Maryland. She served as President of the Cedar Lane Elementary, Thoreau Intermediate, and George C. Marshall High School Parent-Teacher Associations. She was assistant director on all Junior Broadway Productions for 5th grade students at Cedar Lane and Cunningham Park elementary schools.

She and her husband are active members of the Golden Techites from McKinley Tech high school, serving as President and Editor, respectively, since 2001 for over 1, 200 members who graduated 50 or more years from Tech.

A Memorial Service will be held on November 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Culmore Methodist Church at 5901 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22041, followed by a reception at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of her may be sent to ILADS, PO Box 341461, Bethesda, Maryland 20827-1461 for Lyme Disease research or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
