Benjamin L. Lazatin, Jr.

Benjamin Lazatin, Jr., 78, resident of Northern Virginia for 52 years, passed away peacefully at INOVA Fairfax hospital on July 15, 2026 surrounded by family.  He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend; his presence will be deeply missed.

Ben (known as “Lolo” by his grandchildren, and “Kong Boy” by his siblings and friends), was born in Manila, Philippines, in November 1947, to Milagros and Benjamin Lazatin, Sr.  He was raised in Angeles City,  and was the oldest of 10 children (brothers Rolando, Romeo, John, Robert, and Albert, sisters Maria Luisa, Aida, Sonia, and Marie). 

Ben left the Philippines in 1974 to go to the United States, like many, to live and fulfill the American Dream.  A civil engineer by education from the University of Santo Tomas, he was a Project Manager on many large transportation construction projects, including the Riyadh International Airport in Saudi Arabia while working for Bechtel, and multiple large metro stations for Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) where he was a loyal employee for 40 years.

Ben was a devout Catholic, who espoused the virtues of education, dedication to family, living simply, and helping the sick and less fortunate. He enjoyed watching movies, rooting for DC sports teams, traveling (6 continents and almost 40 countries), and spending time with his family.

Ben is survived by his wife of 52 years, Evangeline; son, Francis (Marisa);  daughter Pamela (Nathan); sisters Aida (Juanito), Sonia (Alex), and Marie; brothers Rolando, John (Russell), Robert (Riza), Albert (Clarrie); nephews Alex, John Benjamin, John Ross, Francis Lawrence, and Dominic; nieces Ana, Anna Rose, Allyson, Chelsea, and Stefanie; and grandchildren Sammy, Leo, Zoe and Jack.
