Bernard Andrew Dowgiello

The Honorable Bernard Andrew Dowgiello, beloved son of Bronislaw and Theresa Wrzeninski Dowgiello; loving father of Michael, Mark and Elizabeth, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2012 at his home in Spring Arbor of Leesburg, Va after a long illness. Judge Dowgiello was born in Baltimore, MD on April 14, 1932. He attended Patterson Park High School and subsequently earned a Bachelor's degree and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Baltimore. He served in the US Army Military Police Corps from 1953-1955. Upon passing the Maryland State Bar Exam, Judge Dowgiello accepted a position as a federal employee with the Social Security Administration. Judge Dowgiello retired from the federal government on August 26, 2011 after 57 years of service. During his career with the SSA, Judge Dowgiello was an Analyst, Section Chief, Branch Chief and for his final 25 years, an Administrative Appeals Judge. He is survived by his son, Michael Dowgiello and spouse Nancy; daughter, Elizabeth Light and spouse Don; son, Mark Anthony and spouse Lori; beloved grandfather of six grandchildren, David and Catherine Dowgiello, Benjamin and Daniel Royster, Katherine and Rachel Anthony as well as his sister, Marge and her husband Harry Frazier. In lieu of flowers, Judge Dowgiello's family has requested donations to the Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales, 2200 Kentmere Parkway, Wilmington, DE 19806.
