Carol Ann Strong, 79, passed peacefully on December 31, 2024. She was the youngest child of Chester Dale Strong and Madeline Helen Smith, both of Brookville, PA. She was born on September 26, 1945. She was recruited to Washington, D.C. immediately after high school graduation and began her career as an Administration Assistant in the Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). She moved up the ranks quickly and steadily. She retired in December of 2000 after 37 years and 5 months of service. She was decorated by several Assistant Administrators during her career.

Her favorite hobby was quilting. Her heart and soul went into that pastime. She completed many quilts for charity that were donated as security blankets to terminally ill or traumatized children. Friends and family were also gifted with her talents.

She is survived by her significant other (James Olavarria) of 40 years in Vienna VA, as well as his 4 children and 10 grandchildren, her niece Holly Ostopick of Falls PA, three estranged nieces, and several step nieces and step nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Helen Jane Avery of Falls PA, and her brother James Dale Strong of Vienna VA.

Viewing will be at Money & King funeral home in Vienna VA on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 11:00 am, followed by the service immediately after at noon. Interment will be private at Parklawn Cemetery in Rockville MD on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

Special thank you to Audrey Mirsky and Mark Ashby (and others) for their dedication and tireless efforts to organize Carol’s medications, doctor appointments, transportation, etc. She loved you ALL.

Flowers are welcomed but you are equally encouraged to make a donation to the American Cancer Society in Carol’s memory.

  1. So blessed our paths crossed and I got to know this brave woman. I am in awe of her. Such a warrior…. I will truly miss running down with a quilt that needs a binding for charity and our visits. Rest my dear friend….it’s time for us to do our own bindings!!
