Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Charles was an extraordinarily dedicated husband and father, a good friend, a decent and kind human being, a gentleman and a gentle man, and an exceptionally talented public servant. He will be missed.

  2. Jim, There is a great void to be filled by your Dads passing, I know how much you respected and cherished your relationship with him. I believe that the depth of love and support you and your family share for each other will pull you through. Honor his memory with that love and the wonderful memories you all share of him. Patricia and I will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. My deepest sympathy, Anthony and Patricia Lando

  3. Dearest Aunt Merchi and Cousins, I write this morning as my uncle’s service begins and regret I can not be there to pay tribute to him. But I know many will be present to do exactly that, and they will offer great comfort to you all. For my part, I will spend time this morning reading again his little 1995 book of (not so) “trivial recollections.” As I read, I am lulled into reminiscence of those too few slow summer days in Louisiana, where our families came together so many years ago, and I anticipate the book’s end, his lovely tribute to Merchi, the canary he caught, his beautiful wife who he told me once was “the backbone of the family.” I treasure all of these memoriesof Spain in the 60s, of Louisiana, and of the last time I saw him in Madrid a few years agothat last hug. You were so lucky to have him for a lifetime, and I know you will miss him deeply. He was an extraordinary man and so very, very proud of you. My love and thoughts are with you all–Jeanne
