Charles E. Hunt

Charles E. ("Charlie") Hunt, age 87, of Vienna passed away on August 5 of cardiac arrest following a brief illness.
Charlie was the devoted husband of the late Marcia J. Hunt. They were married for 41 years before Marcia passed away in 1990. Charlie was the beloved father of Jennifer Hunt Rondon of Fairfax, Brian E. Hunt of Alexandria, and John D. Hunt of Camas, Washington. He was also the beloved grandfather of Mia, Ben, and Samuel Hunt of Camas and the beloved father-in-law of Michelle Hunt of Camas and Fernando Rondon of Fairfax. He is also mourned by his brother James ("Jim") Wickwire and his family of New Hampshire and nieces and nephews of the Kaulback family in Ohio.
Born in Boston, Charlie grew up in New Hampshire and always had a New Englander's accent and dry wit. Charlie was a sergeant in the Army infantry during World War II and was stationed in France, Germany, and the Netherlands. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star among other honors. He attended college on the G.I. Bill and studied Foreign Service and history at Georgetown University. After receiving a B.S. degree, he earned a Master's degree in economics from American University.
Charlie was an operations research analyst for the United States Air Force at the Pentagon for 30 years until his retirement in 1980. Afterwards, Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, playing golf, participating in Elderhostel programs, and volunteering. Charlie served as a volunteer with the Fairfax Area Agency on Aging's Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program from 1993 until 2009. In 2007 he was honored by the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging with the MetLife Foundation "Older Volunteers Enrich America" Award.
The Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 1 at 3 p.m. at the Fort Myer Old Post Chapel in Arlington and burial will follow at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Boys Town, P.O. Box 6000, Boys Town, NE 68010 or online at www.boystown.org.
