Charles Frank Scheffey
January 27, 1922 ~ August 23, 2014
Charles Frank Scheffey died on August 23, 2014, at Inova Alexandria Hospital. He is survived by wife Marguerite, sons Carl and John, step-daughters Melinda and Jennifer, grandchildren Tasha, Bryan, and Julie, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ella, who died in 2004.
Known to his friends and family as "Chuck", he was born in Bristol, Pennsylvania, on January 27, 1922. He started his career with the Army Corps of Engineers, and went on to major accomplishments as a civil engineer in academia and public service. He served on the faculty of University of California, Berkeley, from 1952 to 1963. He then moved to the Federal Highway Administration, where he ultimately became the Director of Research.
He was an active Presbyterian, volunteering for multiple leadership roles. In retirement, he used his engineering skills to lead many volunteer construction and maintenance projects for the church at Lewinsville.
In public speaking, he was a bit of a ham. He was loved for his jokes, his creativity, and his charming manner.
A memorial service will be held on August 30 at 3:30 p.m., Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, 1724 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to The Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
