Claire Ann Harry
July 15, 1938 ~ June 21, 2022
Claire Ann Harry, age 83, of Vienna, Virginia died unexpectedly—just weeks shy of celebrating her next birthday—on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, surrounded by the love of family at Inova Fairfax Hospital after suffering a stroke.
Claire was the daughter of the late Paul John Gombita and late Anna Joan Sindrich Gombita. She was the sister of her late siblings, John Gombita (Rosalie), Paul Gombita (late Bobbie Jean), and Joan Lyons. She is survived by her husband of 60-plus years, Bill Harry, as well as their children, Chuck Harry (Gerard deIlly), Christina Werner (Greg), and Curtis Harry (Dawn), her eldest sister Helen Corbett (late Bernie), and her brother-in-law Doug Harry (Linda).
She approached her numerous endeavors throughout life with great passion –as a devout Catholic, a secretary for the U.S. Department of the Navy (where she was sought after for her blazing-fast shorthand), a beauty queen, a church secretary, an avid bowler, an accomplished baker, and a fan of many sports. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to so many.
She cherished her family and would battle through health issues to be there for them, including her beloved grandchildren (Callie Harry, Mackenzie Werner, Conner Harry, and Annika Werner) at their everyday life moments and special events. With a heart full of love, Claire considered having raised her kids as her greatest accomplishment, and she often shared how proud she was of her children.
A longtime neighbor and friend noted that “her laugh was contagious and freely given.” That laugh along with Claire’s generous and loving spirit now echoes in the many lives she touched.
Visitation will be held at Money & King Funeral Home, of Vienna, Virginia on Monday, July 18 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church in Vienna, Virginia on Tuesday, July 19 at 11:00 am, followed by interment at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, Virginia.
A Repast gathering to celebrate Claire’s life will be held at Mama Tigre in Oakton, Virginia that same Tuesday, July 19, at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the Lupus Foundation of America (https://support.lupus.org/), your local Animal Shelter, or your local SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in honor of Claire or her precious Shih Tzu, the late Coco.
