Born in: Spokane, WA
Resided in: Ashburn, VA

Clare Dix went peacefully to be with the Lord on December 14, 2023, after
a long and courageous battle with cancer. Clare was born on November 2,
1941, in Spokane, Washington. A proud original “military brat,” during World
War II her early years were spent on military bases throughout the United
States. Following the war, as she waited with her mother Bernice, brother
Carl, and sister Janet, to be reunited with their father Col. (USAF) Gustav
A. Neuberg in Japan, they lived for several months on the ancestral ranch
in Bernice, Montana. The family lived on Clark Air Base in the Philippines in
the post-war years before returning to the United States and ultimately
settling in Falls Church, where Clare became neighbors with a young
Marine named Dennis who would become her husband of 57 years. Clare
graduated from George Mason High School in 1959 and kept in touch with
her dear Mustang family for the rest of her life. After graduating with a
Bachelor of Business Administration from American University, Clare
worked for Arlington-Fairfax Savings & Loan where she easily secured
“coolest grandmother story of all time,” discussing how she was once held
up at the Seven Corners branch. After settling in Vienna, Clare became an
active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, as well as with various
community organizations and philanthropic endeavors. Apart from lovingly
doting on her family, Clare’s other passions were gardening, arts and
crafts, music, cooking, traveling, and spending time by the swimming pool.
She particularly loved summer vacations with the family and grandkids at
the Outer Banks. Clare is survived by her sons Matthew (Laura Friedrich)
and Mark (Heidi Reester), granddaughters Kaley, Erika, and Reese,
grandson Luke, her brother and sister, and nephews Carter and Justin
Neuberg, and James Kremer. A celebration of life will be held Sunday,
March 17 at 3 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 2589 Chain Bridge
Road, Vienna, Virginia 22181; Clare requested that attendees wear bright
colors. The family suggests that you consider making donations in her
name to the American Cancer Society or Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
