David Alan Sherwood
December 12, 1950 ~ June 14, 2022
David Alan Sherwood, 71, of Vienna, Virginia passed away suddenly but peacefully on June 14, 2022. David is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Anne (Pyle) Sherwood, an adoring daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Alen Bukvic, his sister-in-law Kathleen Sherwood, his brother-in-law Albin F. Pyle III, his niece, Mary Sherwood and his aunts, Dot Birch and Judy Harlow and his uncle Lin Willis and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Marjorie and Joseph Sherwood and his younger brother, Joseph Mark Sherwood.
David was born on December 12, 1950 and spent most of his life in Vienna. He was a generous man with a heart of gold, never hesitating to help people out. He graduated from Oakton High School in 1969 (the first graduating class) where he met Mary Anne. He then went on to work for the Town of Vienna for over 32 years as a Street Maintenance Supervisor. David was referred to as "Duke" by fellow employees, it was a nickname given to him by his dad.
After retirement from the town, he went to work for a local builder and enjoyed an array of hobbies. He built his house in Vienna and loved doing woodworking projects. At one point he was making stained glass including the Police seal for the Vienna Police Department. He loved photography and as a kid turned his mother's closet into a dark room. David was also a lover of all animals.
There will be a Celebration of life visitation on June 28 from 2-4 in the afternoon to honor him. The celebration will be at Money & King Funeral Home in Vienna, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to any of these organizations - American Cancer Society, The American Heart Association or the Fairfax Animal Shelter.
