In loving memory of Diane Francine Smith

Diane Francine Smith, affectionately known as “Franc”, was born on June 19, 1958. She grew up in Vienna, VA with her loving Parents, Ella Finch Mayhew and Jesse James, Sr., who both preceded her in death. She was passionate about her faith, family, education, and human & minority rights.

In 1976, Diane graduated from James Madison High School in Vienna, VA, and attended Northern Virginia Community College. She was first employed at St. Paul’s Insurance Company in Falls Church, VA which rented space from AAA. It was there she would meet her soulmate, Roland H. Smith, Jr., and marry years later in 1989. Diane later worked for FasTran Transportation Services, the Northern Virginia Training Center, and finally landed a position with Fairfax County Public School System as a Transportation (bus) Driver, retiring in 2020.

Diane devoted her life to her faith and to her family, and celebrated every family member’s milestone, from the smallest to the largest. Her prayer life, even through every adversity thrown at her or her family, remained consistent and grew that much stronger. Diane believed in “writing a vision, and making it plain”, and would share them with her close friends and family often. She held a special place in her heart for young/teen mothers, and volunteered at local facilities providing training and support for the next phase of their journey. She loved writing Bible songs to help even the youngest to the oldest individual learn the Word of God through song. Her one of a kind laugh was both unforgettable and infectious. But she was most known for her warm heart, sweet spirit, and enthusiastic hunger for knowledge and truth.

On May 12, 2022, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia, Diane, at age 63, transitioned to be with the Lord. She is preceded in death by her Husband, Elder Roland H. Smith, Jr., and five siblings. Her legacy will be continued on through her children; LaKisha, Roland III, Tiffany, and Michelle. Six grandchildren, one grand-dog (Nova), three sisters, two brothers, nearly a dozen “MeMa babies”; and a host of family, friends and loved ones.
