My thoughts and prayers are with the Alvarez family and all of Diego’s friends during this time. This is not an any loss for anyone. Diego, I love you and will miss your wonderful sense of humor, your mega watt smile and your carefree love of life. The world is a little less bright without you in it and I miss you terribly already. I am always going to look up on a sunny day and think of you, and go out into the world and live life. I was very sorry to hear about Diego. He will be geatly missed. Please accept my sincere sympathy for your loss.

Diego’s smile was so contagious, his sense of humor, and his ability to always make me chuckle when he would email me. I will miss him very much. My thoughts are prayers are with his family. He was truly one of a kind.

I went to school with Diego from elementary school through high school and I was very sad to hear of his passing. He was always happy and full of life and I know I will always remember him that way. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Dear Alvarez Family and to all of Diego’s many friends, Diego had a way of making you feel special and remembered the little details of the conversations you had with him. That unique ability coupled with his amazing sense of humor made him a welcome part of all of our “get togethers”. Last summer he joined my family (Fructuoso/Garland/Wood Clan) at the beach – along with Susan, Paul, Bec and Gene – and helped support us through a tough summer. He brought boundless joy with him. Diego was a lively, kind, and inspirational person who has touched my family and I’s life during one of our most difficult times. He gave us peace and laughter in our darkest of days. Diego was a special man. He was positive and a joy to know. Diego had a deep like for Civil War history, and so he hiked with me over mountains, across streams, and through valleys, and we explored where battles of long ago took place that shaped our country. He had a thirst for knowledge that was almost childlike, and he always got the most out of my hikes and historical narratives. Diego would bring a large tray of homemade delicacies for me and the other hikers. Once, when we played on opposite teams in a competitive sport, he would root not only for his own team but also for our team. He wanted everyone to win and to be happy. Now, he is not totally gone but simply in another location spreading his good cheer. I am sure that he is in a special place and as he entered those heavenly gates he had a large tray of cookies under his arm and he happily offered them to all the angels. Having known Diego was a gift I will always treasure.

our time at the “polar bear” plunge…..

Like so many others have noted, the first thing I noticed about Diego when I met him was his beaming smile. I will remember his ability to make people laugh, how he genuinely cared about people, and how he was able to bring people together. May the light of Christ’s love and peace rest upon all who have known him, and may he continue to shine in ever new ways, according to the love and grace of our God. I’ll miss you, Buddy.

I went to middle school through high school with Diego and He was always such a happy, funny, and outgoing person. Heaven has acquired a new bright smiling soul, may you rest in peace!! My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I will always remember Diego’s amazing smile – a smile that meant so much and could uplift so easily. You must be so proud to have had such a kind, bright spirit as a son, a brother, an uncle. He brought so much light to those who knew him.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Diego. Although I just retired from PWCS, I enjoyed many years of working with Diego and will cherish that time. My deepest sympathy to the Alvarez family and may we all remember the life and accomplishments of Diego.

Diego and I were very close friends in high school, and I was fortunate to continue our relationship beyond that as we both attended GMU. As often happens, our lifes paths took us in different directions soon after college, but with Diego it was always easy to reunite. It was one of those magical relationships that made it easy to pick right up where we left off. I had not seen Diego in the last year and am saddened to have allowed that to happen. Right now life is teaching me one of those life is short lessons and reminds me of how precious our time is together on this earth. Diego, you are truly larger than life and THANK YOU for sharing so much with me. I will miss you. To Diegos family; Im so sorry for your loss. Diego was a special soul, and I know his love for his family was an important factor in his life. My thoughts and prayers are with you through this difficult time.

I have worked with Diego for the last 3 years. He has been a colleague, trainer, mentor and friend. What impressed me about him as much as anything is his demeanor when things were not going well. He was always there to lend a hand if you needed it, no matter how late at night or how long it took to get the job done. He would not allow you to go through adversity alone. He had a way of making you feel better about something, even when you felt your worst. He selflessly, did it without ever wanting anything in return no matter how much you offered to return the favor. Diego also displayed a tremendous zest for life, trying to live it to the fullest. I have tried to implement Diegos approach in my personal and professional life. I can honestly say I am a better worker, friend, husband, dad and person for having been blessed to know Diego. He will be missed but also remembered.

Our dear sweet loveable Diego…. My heart is SO SO sad! I will miss you terrible. I cherish the years we knew each other and I’m counting the days till we meet again. I know we will meet again…. I am so shocked and saddened by Diego’s passing, I remember him as a sweet and caring guy, enjoyed fun people and lots of laughs. I cannot believe he is gone.
