Born in: Greensburg, Pennsylvania
Resided in: South Riding, Virginia

Diep “Karen” Ly passed away unexpectedly on September 6, 2024, at the age of 41 at her home in South Riding, VA. Diep is survived by her parents; Chau Que Ly and Quyen Tuyet Ly, her brother; Kenny Allen Ly all of Chantilly, her daughter; Ava Lin Carrion of South Riding and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her brother Cong “Kevin” Ly of Luray and her grandparents Heng Hong Chuong and Nga Ngoc Mac, of California, Mu Yang Li, of Ohio, and Heng Jin Deng, of California.

Diep was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania on February 13, 1983 to Chau Que and Quyen Tuyet Ly. The family moved to Arlington, Virginia and Diep made friendships in school and on the ball field that continue to this day. Members of Greenbrier Baptist Church as a youth, Diep, alongside her brothers Cong “Kevin” Ly and Kenny Ly, and cousins Sherry Chuong and Richard Chuong, were baptized together and considered their church family an important part of their lives. A proud graduate of Chantilly High School class of 2001, she then pursued a Sports Management degree from Virginia Commonwealth University graduating in 2005, and worked at Enterprise immediately after college. She ultimately landed her dream job working as an Acquisition Specialist for the US government in 2023, where she continued to grow her accolades. On October 11, 2019, Diep met her life partner, Diego Carrion and they welcomed their beautiful daughter, Ava Carrion on March 9, 2023.

Diep was a devoted daughter, sister, life partner, mother, and friend. She enjoyed traveling around the world, and experiencing what different cultures had to offer. She loved playing softball, volleyball, and golf. She was always there when you needed her. Her personality made you feel like you were the most critical person in the world. She always showed up with a smile, laughter, and friendship. Diep fulfilled her lifelong goal of becoming a mother, spending every moment with her daughter, and surrounding her with unconditional love and affection. She has touched many lives and will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be contributed to Ava Carrion’s future as well as the immediate needs of the families.

  1. Although I’ve only known Diep a short while, I spent one day with her at a work event and felt like I knew her forever. We became instant friends. She was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family through this difficult time.

  2. I had a chance to work with Diep at PEO EIS, PM ARDAP. She was the contract officer representative for the major contract under ARDAP. Whenever I had the pleasure of working with her she was always bright and cheerful with a kind word to give. Her contribution to our work family was very important and she will be dearly missed as a friend and colleague.
My prayers are with Ava, Diego and her entire family.
Thank you for sharing her with us.

  3. To the family of Ms. Diep Ly,

The presence of Diep will be truly missed here in ARDAP. May you find strength and peace during this solemn time. Although her presence may be gone, she will never be forgotten. Lean on her infectious smile and know that she will always be with you.

  4. I knew Karen through our Tropics Softball Team . . . she was a GREAT player and team-mate . . . I loved hanging out with her because she always made me (us) laugh!!!! She was one of a kind and we were very excited with the prospect of her returning to our team . . . I am so sad about this loss . . . I don’t really have the words . . . but I don’t want the opportunity to pass by without saying something . . . I will miss you very much!!!!!

And I am so sorry for the loss to the family . . . I can’t imagine the pain and grief . . . she was awesome and I truly wish I had a magic wand to make all of this go away . . . but unfortunately all that I can do is offer my deepest and most genuine condolences . . . My prayers are with you . . .
