Born in: Boston, MA
Resided in: Mc Lean, VA

Dorothy May McFadyen (Flint) passed away peacefully with her family on April 21, 2026 after a brief time in the hospital. Born on October 28, 1935 in Boston, Dorothy was the cherished daughter of Lloyd and Winifred Flint.

Dorothy earned two master’s degrees in Biology. She met Jack McFadyen, Ph.D. at a dance at Brookhaven National Laboratory, and danced through 60 years of marriage, building a beautiful family and a lifetime of memories in New York, Venezuela and Virginia.

Focusing early on radiation biology, Dorothy then raised two sons and took on other roles. Beyond her professional life, she was a passionate volunteer. For many years, she volunteered in The Hospitality and Information Service (THIS), supporting spouses of diplomats. She enjoyed classical music, and with Jack was active backstage in community theater around the DC area. Lovers of travel and different cultures, Dorothy and Jack traveled to 6 continents.

Those who knew Dorothy will remember her sprightly conversations, sense of humor, positive attitude and sparkly blue eyes. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. Celebrating her 90th birthday, she reminisced about a wonderful life full of love, friends and family.

Dorothy is survived by her loving spouse, Jack, and two sons, Tom (wife Francianne) in McLean, VA and Dan (wife Bronwyn), in Melbourne, Australia, and her grandchildren, Zoey, Alec, Joel and Alicia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Winifred Flint, and her brothers, Robert and James.
