Originally from Lima, Ohio, long time resident of Vienna, VA, Dr Flinchbaugh passed away August 8th, 2015 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Maria, his son Bob and daughter Jeannie. He is survived by his daughter Mimi Thompson (Wayne), grandchildren Rachel Adamec (Stephen) and Philippe Belland (Kathy), great grandchildren Sarah and Jordan Belland, nephews Bob (Judy) and Richard Shreves and grand nieces and nephews.

Dr Flinchbaugh overcame an impoverished early life growing up during the depression living with a widowed deaf father through a scholarship to Ohio State University. He became a prosthodontist and rose to the rank of colonel in the Army Dental Corps. His military career of 22 years took him to many assignments including Korea, Japan, and the Panama Canal Zone. His last assignment was Chief of the Ft Myer Dental Clinic, Ft Myer, VA. After retiring he spent the next 20 years in private practice making dentures for the residents of Northern Virginia.

Dr Flinchbaugh enjoyed many pursuits including prize winning (Japan) photography and playing recorders from his extensive collection. The congregation of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross will fondly remember him seated by the organist for many years, playing his recorder.

Visitation from 10:30 to 11:30am with a service to follow will be held this Saturday August 15th, 2015 at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Avenue, Vienna, VA.

A memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross,

2455 Gallows Road, Dunn Loring, VA, Saturday, August 29th, 2015. Internment will follow at a later date in the family plot at the historic St. Paul's Parish Kent (built in 1713), Chestertown, Maryland.

  1. Col. Flinchbaugh was my commanding officer when I was stationed at Fort Myer as staff Endodontist. He was indeed a credit to the Army and his profession, and I have many fond memories of working with this fine man. My sincere condolences to the family on your loss. He will be missed by many.
