Edith Jutta Goeller (Edie), age 94, of McLean, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Edith is survived by her sons Kenan, Kevin, and James, as well as seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her late husband James J Goeller and their beloved children, Diana and Michael.

Edith was born on May 30, 1931, in Gros Dankheim, Germany, to Alois and Amalie Schembor. In 1936, at the age of 5, she immigrated to the United States with her parents, arriving at Ellis Island to begin a new life. The family settled in Queens, New York, where Edith attended Jamaica High School. It was there she met her future husband, James J Goeller.

Edie attended secretarial school and began her early career in the insurance field in NY. After James ’military service, the young couple moved to McLean, Virginia, and she soon embraced life raising their growing family.

Edith and James shared a lifelong partnership, both in life and in business. In the late 1960’s, she and James founded Goeller’s Art & Framing and Office Supply, operating in Falls Church, Burke, and Mclean, Virginia. It became a true family business, one that her children also took part in over the years. A talented artist, Edith created beautiful oil paintings and ceramic paintings that showcased her creativity and spirit.

After retiring from retail, Edith embarked on a second career. At the age of 70, she joined EDJ and Associates, a medical insurance company in Herndon, Va where she worked diligently until her second retirement at age 82.

One of Edith’s greatest joys later in life was playing softball with the “Golden Girls,” a senior women’s league. She embraced the sport with enthusiasm, traveling across the United States with her teammates and playing well into her mid-80s — a true testament to her energy and determination.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna, Virginia. Inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery will take place at a later date.

  3. Edie was a delight to work with, as she was dedicated and thorough…I had the pleasure to work with her at both Goeller’s office supply and EDJ. She taught me many things, and I enjoyed our conversations both in and out of the office. It was fun to take her shopping, as she delighted in seeing all the things she could buy and we spent time at Tyson’s getting the samples of candy at the mall, and window shopping and of course “people watching” Then we would meet Jim at Season’s 52, which we discovered one day, as they were passing out coupons for flatbreads at the restaurant. It became a place we went to often after hours of walking through the mall. I enjoyed our time together and will always be grateful that she was a friend of mine. I hope that she has found her loved one’s souls and is able to spend eternity with them. And I hope she has forgiven me for being what she called me, many times with humor, a “bad influence” on Jim 🙂
    xoxoSandy
