Edna Lee Lons

Edna Lee Unruh Lons, age 104, of Fairfax, VA, passed away at Oakton Sunrise Senior Living on 10 April 2022. Edna was born on 7 March 1918 to James William and Edna Sipher Unruh in Kinsale, VA. She graduated from Washington and Lee High School in Arlington, VA, in 1935. After graduation, she became a tap and ballet teacher until she retired from teaching at 40 to care for her ailing mother and family full time.
Edna married Woodrow Wilson Lons, Sr., on 13 August 1942; he passed away on 18 February 1998. She is survived by her two sons, Woodrow Wilson Lons, Jr., and William Franklin Lons, and their respective partners.
Edna especially liked tap and ballet dancing. She also loved collecting bargain antiques and all types of dolls and their accessories. Edna enjoyed accomplishing many forms of needlework: she created and hand-sewed a quilt each year for more than 50 years. She used her sewing skills to create clothing for herself and family and for her dolls. In addition, Edna was proud of her lineage as a Daughter of the American Revolution and was a lifelong member since 1937.
A graveside service will be held at the City of Fairfax Cemetery, 10567 West Main Street (Rt. 236 W), Fairfax, VA, on 15 April 2022 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, send a donation to the Virginia DAR Treasurer, Linda Abravanel, Regent, Freedom Hill DAR, 790 Stephanie Circle, Great Falls, VA, 22066. No reception is being held.

Ms. Edna has lived so long. She has loved, cared for, and inspired so many along the way. She now leaves behind such beautiful memories to comfort those who were a part of her life’s journey.
