Edwin R. Weaver
June 19, 1938 ~ August 25, 2024
On August 25, CAPT Edwin R. (Dick) Weaver, Jr. (USN, Ret.) of Trappe, MD, and Falls Church, VA, passed away unexpectedly. Dick was born on June 19, 1938, to Edwin R. (Dick) Weaver, Sr. and Dorothy Bising Weaver in Jersey City, New Jersey. Dick grew up in Jersey City and Little Silver, NJ. He graduated from Monmouth College and immediately went into Officer Candidate School in Georgia and Rhode Island. After graduation from OCS in 1962, Dick married Kathy Riley, the love of his life, and the two began an adventure with the Navy that took them to Guam, Philadelphia (twice), the Philippines, Northern Virginia (twice), Alameda, CA (twice), Hawaii, and Mechanicsburg, PA. Dick is survived by his daughter Kim, his son Mike, his granddaughter Anna, his sisters-in law Peggy Riley and Joanne Marshall (Bill), and cousins, nieces, and nephews.
When Dick retired, he and Kathy moved to Trappe, MD, and had more time to indulge their love of travel honed during his years in the Navy. Their trip to Australia and New Zealand vied with their trips to China and Italy, where they were privileged to see the Pope, for their favorite.
No matter where Dick lived, he loved woodworking; using tools he inherited from his father to build furniture and marvelous improvements to his homes. In Trappe, Dick put those skills to use with Habitat for Humanity, working for years to build numerous homes in Talbot County. His wife also put those skills to work with her volunteer work at St. Vincent de Paul’s Food Pantry. In each place the pantry called home, Dick used his skills to improve the facility, so it functioned better for clients and volunteers alike.
Dick and Kathy will be inurned at the columbarium at the Arlington National Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asked for contributions to Talbot County Habitat for Humanity, St. Vincent de Paul of Easton, MD, or the American Cancer Society.
RIP Ed. Gone too soon.
