Edythe "Pat" Miller (Age 98)

Passed away peacefully on March 28, 2017 at Powhatan Nursing Home. Edythe was born in Iva, South Carolina, to George and Elizabeth Miller. She married Morrison T. Miller in 1946 and was widowed in 1949. Edythe never remarried.

From the early 1950's until she retired, Edythe worked for the Federal Government, first at the White House and then for the State Department. She was posted in Germany, Turkey, and Korea. Edythe loved travelling and embraced the culture, music, and people where ever she lived. Eventually Edythe moved to Arlington, became a Master Gardener, joined many plant societies, and kept bees. Edythe also worked tirelessly in support of the Arlington Historical Society, the Arlington Symphony and Opera, and the beautification of Arlington by advocating for, and volunteering in, public gardens throughout the county.

Edythe is survived by her daughter Jann Thompson (Dale) and a much beloved Granddaughter Elizabeth. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm, April 11, 2017, at Charles Wesley United Methodist Church, 6817 Dean Drive, McLean, Virginia. In place of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army in support of their good works. Online condolences and fond memories of Edythe may be offered to the family at www.moneyandking.com

  1. I too remember Pat from Sons of Norway meetings. I admired her willingness and energy to volunteer even when her health began to decline. I was also always fascinated that she had lived in Turkey. Heartfelt condolences on your loss.
