Elizabeth (Betty) Zavolta, 95, of Falls Church, Virginia, passed away peacefully in her
home with her daughters on December 1, 2025, after a 7 year journey with Parkinson’s.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas (Nick) and son Charles. She is

grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Betty was born on September 4, 1930, in Pittsburgh, PA. She is one of seven children
of Carmine and Josephine Foglia. She was born into a big and loving Italian family.
Betty graduated from Mount Assisi Academy, an all girls Catholic High School, in
Pittsburgh, PA.
After graduation, Betty worked and met Nick at Danceland in West View Park, in
Pittsburgh. They later married in May 1951 in Pittsburgh, PA. They remained in
Pittsburgh until 1966 when they moved to Falls Church, VA. Nick and Betty raised
three children (Susan, Charles, and Sandy). Betty worked and retired from AAA in
Falls Church, VA.
Betty was a kind, compassionate, energetic, hard working, and fun-loving wife, mother
and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and traveling. Some of the family’s
favorite memories are eating Mom’s Italian cooking. Her favorite was spagetti &
meatballs. Everyone looked forward to tasting her cookies at Christmas, especially the
pizzelles. She also enjoyed spending time with Nick and their grandchildren (Allison,
Joshua, Andrew, and Stephen) and later with their great grand-daughters.
Betty enjoyed entertaining and traveling with family and friends. Her family has fond
memories of traveling with her on family vacations throughout the East Coast and up
to Quebec, Canada, with their trailer. Later Betty and Nick traveled throughout many
parts of the world on cruises and tours. Nick and Betty made friends where ever they
went. They continued dancing at the Elks into their 80’s.
Betty was dedicated to her family until the end. She took excellent care of Nick
throughout his life. During her last days, she continued to communicate with family
and friends with simple words and kind hand gestures.
