Elizabeth Ruth Hosterman McKenna died May 14, 2022 at her residence, Brightview Great Falls. Born May 3, 1924 in Washington, D.C. she attended McKinley Tech High and graduated from Penn State University in 1946 with degrees in Home Economics and Chemistry.

Betty was employed as a chemist at the Bureau of Standards when a mutual friend invited her and her future husband Duane to a friendly tennis game. It was a match made in heaven and a doubles partnership that would last nearly 70 years. She and Duane married in 1950 and moved to McLean where they raised four children and lived for more than 50 years. She was a substitute home-ec teacher in Fairfax County before becoming a realtor for 20 years; her many other interests included sewing, ballroom dancing, collecting antiques, playing the piano, and of course tennis. She and Duane traveled the world, visiting countless countries over 30 years. As a resident of Asbury Methodist Village, (2005-20) where she was known as Liz, she played the piano for a monthly sing-along and learned to tap dance.

Elizabeth was predeceased by Duane in 2020 and is survived by her four children, Anne, Kirsten, Gregory, and Matthew, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A celebration of the lives of Betty and Duane will take place at 2 p.m. August 13, 2022 at Lewinsville Presbyterian Church in McLean, VA. Memorials may be made to the LPC Foundation or to the International Rescue Committee.
