Evangeline Delasos Sigalas of Vienna, VA passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026 at the age of 100.
Evangeline was born on November 1, 1925 in Washington, DC, the second child of George and Katina Delasos, both of whom had emigrated from Greece. She had three siblings sharing her young life: brother Lewis and sisters Stella and Tina. Growing up she enjoyed visiting cousins in New York and Boston. She met her husband Louis at St Sophias, fell in love, and then they were married at St. Sophia’s in 1946. He was born in Santorini, Greece and became a U.S. citizen after joining the U.S. Army in WWII. They started a family and he began a restaurant business, where Evangeline often helped her husband. But her favorite job, and most important work, was caring for her three precious boys at home. Their house was often full of family and friends. Evangeline also enjoyed good times with her many friends.
Evangeline and Louis traveled to Greece regularly to spend time with extended family, sharing a fun and busy social life in traditional Greek style. They also enjoyed many road trip adventures around Europe with various family members. Their extended Greek family was very special to them.
After her husband passed she moved to a retirement community and made many new friends and was a busy social butterfly, while still being a loving presence in her ever growing family.
She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Louis Anthony Sigalas. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Anthony Louis (Katina), George Louis (Rosemary), and Michael Louis (Cathy); 9 grandchildren: Louis Anthony (Tanya), Valia (George P), Louis George (Jacqueline), Jonathan, Rebecca (Colin), Louis Michael (Kristin), Nicholas Michael (Chichi), Andrew Michael (Julie), and Jessica (Ray): and 19 great grandchildren: Anthony Louis, Matthew, Angelina, Adonis, Nicholas, Katerina, George Louis, Amelia, Max, Zoe, Stella, Ella, Miles, Michael Nicholas, Camden, Luca, Harmony, Calix and Jason.
Service on Monday, August 17 at 11 am at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2815 36th Street, NW, Washington, DC, 20007 Burial following the service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20906
Note: the burial could not be scheduled until 2 so there is extra time to fill after the service. The hearse will be parked inside the cemetery at the “X” on the map of the cemetery (copy attached in photo gallery) so cars can line up there by 1:30.
