Frances D. Allen

The family of Frances D. Allen are saddened to announce her passing at the age of 94 on April 2, 2024 due to complications from a fall. She was born on November 22, 1929 in the Bronx, New York City, to Joseph and Mary Deluca (Indrieri). She attended New York City public schools. Frances was an accomplished pianist, winning a scholarship to Juilliard in New York City. Ultimately, practicality won out and she studied music and primary school education at Hunter College (New York City), graduating in 1951 with a B.A. in Music. She was honored to have performed with the New York Symphony Orchestra. Following graduation from college, she worked as a primary school teacher in the New York City Public School System and directed the school orchestra where she taught. In 1962, she married the love of her life, LTCR Robert M. Allen, M.D., and accompanied him to his posts with the U.S. Navy until his retirement from active duty. They eventually settled in Northern Virginia where she raised two children. She was active in the women’s auxiliary of the Fairfax Medical Society, ultimately serving as President, and various volunteer organizations while supporting her husband’s career. She is pre-deceased by her parents and her brother, Dr. Hugo S. Deluca. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, her children, Dr. Robert M. Allen, Jr (Tracy) and Dr. Carol Anne Allen (Martin) and three granddaughters (Madison, Samantha and Haylie). Services will be private and will be held at a later date.
