Frank David Spicer, Sr.
April 7, 1930 ~ December 5, 2025
Born in:
Detroit, MI
Resided in:
Fairfax, Va
Frank Spicer, a man characterized by lifelong devotion to his family, friends, community and the military, died peacefully at his home in Fairfax, Va. on December 5th. He was 95 years old and had waged a brave battle against cancer for the last several years.
Although he spent most of his life in Virginia, he was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 7, 1930. At age 11, he became a newsboy selling papers for the Detroit Free Press, including a special “extra” edition about the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
When he was 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving with the famed 1st Marine Division during the Korean War in 1952-1953. Earlier he trained Midshipmen at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. in marksmanship. He was later a life member of VFW Post 8469 and participated in innumerable parades and events.
He married Antoinette Haske in 1950 and they became the proud parents of seven wonderful children. She also introduced him to the Catholic faith, but, sadly, they divorced after 26 years.
Once Frank left the military, he joined the life insurance industry where he served for over 50 years in sales and management. He was proud that three of his five sons followed him successfully into the industry.
In 1988, he met Angela Taylor while she was playing the organ at a Catholic church he was visiting. They married a year later and have been blessed to be together for the last 37 years.
In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by his children: Frank, Jr. (Sally); John (Patricia); Rosemarie Bruno (Nicola – deceased); Mary Sample (Wade); Joseph (Teresa); Michael (Kim); and Peter; as well as 24 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren. He was immensely proud of them and their personal and professional achievements.
The family would like to recognize the compassionate and outstanding service provided by Dr. James Long and Dr. Alexander Spira during Frank’s battle with cancer.

I always looked forward to seeing Frank at our Military History Class. He was always so friendly and cheerful. We all miss his puns!
