Frederic “Ric” Baylor Francke, of McLean, Virginia, passed away on December 25, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on May 13, 1947, in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, Ric led a life marked by intellectual curiosity, global exploration, and a deep love for community and nature.
Ric earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University, where he became a lifelong fan of Hopkins lacrosse, and went on to have a distinguished 30-year career in international banking which took him around the world, including significant time in New York, Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi, Hungary, and Central Asia.
Ric was deeply committed to preserving and enjoying nature: he loved hiking, biking, running, backpacking, and sailing. He founded and directed the Potomac Heritage Trail Association.
He also found great joy in music and the church: he was a devoted choir member at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in McLean. For many years, he also enjoyed singing in the New Dominion Chorale.
Ric is survived by his wife, Rend Rahim Francke; his son, Christopher Hassaan Francke and his wife Sarah Brown-Campello; and his sister, Laurel Francke. Family and friends will gather for a private graveside service and interment at Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia
