Frederick Faber Touchstone

During our four years at USNA, I seemed to constantly fluctuate between Navy Air, Submarines, and Marine Corps.  Of course, I ended up in the Surface Navy (but with plans to go into submarines after a year at sea).  Turning down ADM Rickover’s invitation to go nuclear (you could get away with that in 1960), I remained in Destroyers until shifting to Engineering Duty Officer designation in 1970.  Duty assignments have included: Engineer Officer on three DDs, XO on a DER.  Shore assignments have been with BUPERS (Intelligence community assignment), NAVSEA, COMNAVSURFLANT, SRF Yokosuka, Japan, and CINCUSNAVEUR, London, UK.  Qualified as Surface Warfare Officer, Salvage Officer, and EDO.  Post-USNA education: MSME at NPS Monterey, MA International Relations at USC, Executive Management at University of Houston.  Retired in 1984 as the Fleet Maintenance Officer in Europe, and continued living in London, UK for two more years while providing consultant work for the International Maritime Organization (IMO).  Moved to DC area (you can’t live on bread alone, especially if you can’t afford the bread) and have worked with two different “Beltway Bandits” since then.   Met (in 1971) and married (in 1972) my Danish wife, Kirsten, who has accompanied me on overseas tours to Japan, London, and Verona (Italy), and continues to be of a pillar of support to me here in DC.  Rise & Shine!
