Frederick "Fred" August Frank Jr.

Frederick August Frank Jr. passed away surrounded by loved ones in Fairfax, Virginia on September 20, 2023.

Fred was born on March 3, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from Polytechnic High School of Baltimore in 1953. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force for just under four years, followed by graduating from the University of Maryland in 1961 with a BA degree, the University of Denver in 1962 with a MA degree in Public Administration and La Salle University in 1972 with a JD degree. After graduating from the University of Denver he went to work for the US Government, serving most of his career as a budget analyst for the Internal Revenue Service and retiring in 1996. He was an active participant and organizer in building the Federal Employees Union.

Fred’s favorite hobby was reading historical non-fiction. He was a walking, talking historian. He loved planning and executing our family vacations, especially the ones out west to National Parks. He also loved watching the Orioles, building model boats and airplanes and setting up his model train displays at Christmastime.

Above all, Fred cherished his family, was a loving and devoted husband and father, and a proud grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Kathryn. He is survived by his by his wife Patricia of 61 years, daughter Susan, son Fred, son-in-laws Austin and Dave and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will follow on Saturday, October 7 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 7426 Idylwood Rd., Falls Church, VA
