So sorry to hear of the loss of your father. Although it has many years since I have seen him, I have many fond memories. He had such a wonderful spirit and I know he will be missed by many. My love, thoughts, and prayers go to all of your family.
Wow! Mr. Dietz! What a wonderful, kind and patient man. He never gave up on trying to make a musician out of me at John Hanson junior high school. I was 3rd trombone (and second chair at that) but I will never forget the 2 note solo he found for me for one of our concerts. He truly is one of those guys that kids learned from and are better for having known him. God bless him!!! Andy Tompros
What a great and caring guy. At times like this you really contemplate the influence teachers have on us. We all have our stories like Anthony. God rest his soul.
A great teacher, Educational Leader and friend.
I knew Mr Dietz as a kind, talented, intelligent and gentle man. He leaves behind a beautiful family that he was so proud of… I am so sorry for your loss. My love to you all…
Mr. Dietz! I can hear your laugh now in the Faculty Lounge! I was a first-year teacher at John Hanson in 1963 (through 1966) and he was such a delight, so friendly, nice and collegial. Being the child of a professional musician, I truly appreciated his high standards, enthusiasm, his outstanding musicianship to his students and his true friendship with the rest of us. His POST picture looks exactly the way I remember him. My sympathy goes out to his famiily.
It was my pleasure to teach school with Mr. Dietz in the sixties at John Hanson Junior High School. He enriched all of our lives with his compassion, wit and talent. My sympathy goes out to his family, extended family and and many friends and admirers.
I have very fond memories playing in the band at John Hanson Jr. High with Mr. Dietz as my first band instructor. He was patient and kind as Allison and I sat together and joked constantly during practice. I have vivid memories of our concerts and am filled with feelings of joy as I remember the stage, the music, and standing ovations from the audience. When he turned back, there was a sigh of relief when he smiled! He will be missed by everyone especially his wonderful family. My heartfelt wishes and deep sympathy to you.
My thoughts return to our years growing up in Forest Heights and so many years shared at the home of George and June Dietz and all of the children, John Hanson Junior High and Oxon Hill High School. I have so many memories of the musical background our families enjoyed which will always be treasured. My heart goes out to all members of the Dietz family during this difficult time.
I was the Principal Clarinetist/Concertmaster of the USAF Band from 2003-2011, and owe MSgt Dietz a debt of gratitude for his exemplary contribution as one of the first members of the USAF Band. As the first solo clarinetist of the USAF Band, he certainly set a musical and military standard that paved the way for both the principal clarinetists and Airmen-musicians of this premier band who followed in his footsteps. It was a privilege to be able to pay my respects to MSgt Dietz at his 22 March funeral on behalf of the men and women of the USAF Band. We are mindful of, and thankful for, his legacy to our organization.
