Georgia Joyce Reilly

Georgia Joyce Reilly died on November 2, 2016, at home after surviving pancreatic cancer for two years. Born on May 15, 1933, she was the youngest of four daughters born to Helen and John Adler of Chicago, IL. Her life-long love of travel began at age 19 when she sailed to Paris and hitchhiked through Europe. Returning after a year to settle and work in San Francisco, she eventually was lured to Washington, DC, where she met and married Donald Reilly, a fellow American University journalism student. Upon graduation, both of them worked as reporters in California for the Ventura County Star Free Press. Her husband joined the Foreign Service, and assignments took them to posts throughout Asia and South America. In Saigon, Georgia used her communication skills to teach English to Vietnamese radio announcers. In Kathmandu, she was a secretary in the political section of the American Embassy. When Don retired the family settled in Vienna, VA and much to her delight Georgia began a long and rewarding span of years with Smithsonian Institution as a contract worker and as a volunteer. In addition to her husband, Georgia leaves two sons, Douglas John Reilly and Neil Martin Reilly; nephew Bruce Cole; nieces Leslie Cole, Lynn Cole Williams and Judith Goldman. In Lieu of flowers please consider helping with "The Make A Wish Foundation." Family and friends will be invited to share Happy Hour at the family home at a date and time to be announced later through the moneyandking.com

Guestbook

  1. I will miss my best friend and the sister I never had – and both being bulls – Lots of laughs together and every time I play cards I know you will be watching love you so very much and miss you

  2. Georgia, You went one farther than the saying “she never met a stranger.” We were all your family….loved, appreciated and always welcome. It comforts us to think you are now spreading your magic in the great mystery beyond. We miss you already and will do our best to comfort those you have temporarily left behind. Love Debbie & Jan (from Kansas)

  3. How does a son tell the world how much he loved his mother? How can a son thank the woman who gave him the opportunity to meet and enjoy the many fine loving people who loved her. She taught me to be a man, to be kind and to be a reflection of her values. It is at times like this that men realize where their strength comes from, where the glue that holds families together comes from. I could not have have asked for, nor dreamed of a more perfect mother, women, and friend. You did a good job ma.See you when the time comes. Your Son, Doug

  4. Q: What will you never forget about Georgia?

A: Her infectious smile, her kindness and grace. A first class wonderful lady. Blessed to have known her. Gentle soul.? RIP ??
