Georgianne Walton Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, December 30th, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital while in hospice care. She was born November 16th, 1928, to the late Charles Walton and the late Anne Walton in Atlanta, Georgia. The family moved to Washington, DC when Georgianne was a little girl.

After graduating from high school in 1946, Georgianne planned to attend Marquette University. Instead she accepted the marriage proposal of Jack C. Pleasant. They married in 1948 and raised their 4 children in Falls Church, VA.

Georgianne always had education in her heart. When her youngest child was in elementary school, she started college and graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Marymount University. For 30 years, she taught in both in Fairfax County and at St. Ann's Catholic School in Arlington. It was at St. Ann's that she staked her flag and made a difference in the lives of 4th graders for 25 years.

Georgianne was truly a volunteer at heart. When her children were young, she was involved with all of their extra-curricular activities. From scouting, to scorekeeping for baseball games, supporting swim team activities, and being a team mom, she pitched in where she was needed. She also enjoyed being a classroom helper. Georgianne loved to read, to play bridge, and to swim. She was a fan of the Washington Senators, then the Nationals, and those Washington Redskins, too. With Jack, she was a charter member of The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in McLean.

Georgianne was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Jack C. Pleasant. She is survived by her 2 siblings--Karen Baker (Charlie)of Birmingham, AL and Charlie Walton (Monique) of St. Petersburg, FL and her 4 children--James Pleasant (Elizabeth) of Arlington, VA, Gerald Pleasant (Alitia) of Aldie, VA, Kathryn Boyce (Al) of Great Falls, VA, and John Pleasant of McLean, VA. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Melissa, Jessica, Karen, Amy, Brian, Jeffrey, Johanna, Samantha, and Emily and 9 great-grandchildren. Georgianne was also predeceased by her beloved daughter in-law, Rhonda Pleasant.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St Ann's Catholic School in Arlington, VA to honor Georgianne's dedicated service as a loyal teacher and educator.

  2. I was very sorry to hear of Georgianne’s passing. I was a colleague of hers at St. Ann’s and she also taught my son Matt in fourth grade. She was a wonderful teacher and friend. I will especially always remember her kindness toward my son. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Ellen Shaver

  3. To the family of Ms. Pleasant, I know that this is a very difficult time for you. We as humans were never meant to experience death. God’s purpose for us is to live on the earth forever in perfect health. The Bible mentions a time when the ones who have passed away will rise again in John 5:28,29. Take comfort in knowing that you will see Georgianne again. Please accept my condolences.

  4. Georgianne was an amazing person with a kind soul. She will be greatly missed. She is someone whom I will always hold dearly to my heart.
