He was a great English teacher and a really good man. I’m sorry for your loss. Craig Herberg
Our long acquaintance began in 1959 at Wakefield High School where we both taught English and at Fairlington Apartments, where we both lived, and continued until Jerry’s death. As a colleague and friend, he was dear and charming, and those of us who knew him feel his loss. Deepest sympathy to all of the family in your much greater loss but rejoicing with you in all of your happy memories of such a great man.
Blessings to the Shelton family. I feel so thankful for the years of knowing Jerry….his smile and friendly greeting at VBC everytime we met there will live on in my heart forever. Sally
My wife Nancy and I have had the pleasure of knowing Jerry & Charlotte for many years. I was their family deacon at Vienna Baptist Church and was able to minister to both of them and to Jerry as a friend and deacon upon Charlotte’s death. Jerry was such an inspiration to so many of the VBC members and we always looked forward to spending time with him. We missed him when he moved to the Goodwin House but were able to keep in touch with him. We heard from friends who lived there how he brightened the lives of others at his new home. We will miss his joking around (the two Jerry’s – Shelton and McKnight). He will be with Charlotte his beloved again.
I am so sad to learn that my cousin, Gerard has passed away. It has been a number of years since I last saw him, but I have many fond memories of spending time with him when he would visit my family in Richmond. Gerard was named after my dad (Eldridge). His parents took care of my dad when my dad was growing up. I feel a big loss because Gerard was like a big brother to me when I was growing up. He had a great sense of humor, and was always so cheerful. My condolences to his children and grandchildren.
I knew Jerry Shelton at Vienna Baptist Church, where he was a ray of sunshine and brought great joy to every life he touched. I will forever miss his hugs, his smile, and his genuine care. I feel honored to have known this fine man, and I’m glad he’s now with his beloved wife (the way he talked about her was amazing – his love was so evident). My deepest condolences to his family.
We were so sad to hear of Jerry’s death. He was the first to greet us at church with smiles, hugs and genuine interest in how we all were doing. He was especially kind to the kids. We will miss him.
Mr Shelton was my 7th grade English Teacher, the year, 1952-53, at Wakefield High School. It was a pleasure to attend the “Celebration of Life” Service at the Goodwin House. A special man..
I just found out that Jerry passed away almost 4 years ago. I’m sorry I didn’t know sooner … I L-O-V-E-D seeing Jerry at the Adventures in Learning at the Shepherd’s Center of Oakton-Vienna. He was such a nice man … I remember Charlotte also … what a great couple. God bless them both and their family.
Love, Peg Alpin, Oakton, VA
