Giles Clifton Sinkewiz
March 31, 1935 ~ August 4, 2021
Our hearts are heavy to announce that Giles Clifton Sinkewiz, aka Papa, passed peacefully on August 4, 2021. Giles was born in Belleville, IL to Andrew and Emma Sinkewiz. Due to the early passing of his parents, he and his three siblings were raised by their aunt and uncle, Opal and Harold Bedwell. He, his four brothers and one sister, were raised in faith and family as the foundation of a good life.
After finishing his Bachelors and Masters in Engineering from the University of Missouri, he traveled nationally and internationally working in establishing satellite tracking systems. Based in Florida, his work took him from satellite tracking into space programs and ultimately into the cellular communications industry. His final move was to Northern Virginia in 1986 where he resided with his wife Vivian.
Papa’s passions of faith and family guided his life’s journey. His career allowed him to see the world - from Japan to Russia. In retirement he and Vivian continued that travel through round the world cruising, long family vacations and trips to Florida each spring. Family traditions built around extended family vacations, celebrations of weddings and birthdays and a hosting full house of family on Christmas Eve – all of which kept his heart full. His faith took him from a youth group leader through adult Sunday school teacher, and into the mission fields in Sierra Leone, Haymarket Regional Food Bank, Christmas in July and more. A well lived life leaving fingerprints across the globe.
Giles is survived by family as the father to Susan (Mark) Mongold and Scott (Kit) Sinkewiz, stepfather to Michael (Pam) and Gregory (Rachel) Mooney, grandfather to Brandon (Karlee) Mooney, Shayna (Michael) Ignaszewski, Garrett (Nazy Vaziri) Mooney, Brittney (Trexler) Jasien, Natalie (Josh) Lambert and Alexis (Kyle) Magee and great-grandfather to Carter and Cameron Ignaszweski, Pierce and Sloane Jasien, and Hazel Mooney. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 13 from 5-7pm at Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna. On Saturday, August 14 a 10am service will be held at Oakton United Methodist Church with a procession to Stonewall Memory Gardens for his final resting place.
In lieu of flowers a contribution to the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry would be appreciated.

To Giles’ clan — I was fortunate to share working with Giles for over six years at the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry. What I learned from him, I will remember forever. He was an extraordinary person with an extraordinary ability to touch peoples’ lives. How fortunate we all are to have shared him in our lives. Teresa Dillon
