Resided in: Ashburn, VA

Gladys Tereza Barbara, 88, of Ashburn, Va. fell asleep in the Lord on Dec. 8th surrounded by her loving family. Born in Quito, Ecuador in 1935, Gladys was the sixth of seven children of José and Salma Hayek who were of Lebanese descent. Excited about what life in America could offer, Gladys emigrated to the U.S. in 1958 and soon thereafter met the love of her life, Eddie, to whom she was married for 58 years until his death this past July. Eddie and Gladys lived a full life that was centered around family and dear friends from Holy Transfiguration Church. In addition to being a phenomenal cook, particularly of Middle Eastern cuisine, Gladys had a successful cake decorating business and was a star employee (head teller) of First Virginia Bank, where she worked for nearly 20 years. She will forever be remembered for her generosity, beautiful smile, and infectious laugh. Gladys is survived by her three daughters: Sonia (Bob) McCormick; Denise (Brian) Eckert; and Jaqui (Charlie) Maglione, along with six grandsons: Luke, Pete, Dominic, Christian, Nicholas and Nathaniel. She also leaves behind her beloved brother Roberto and numerous other family members in Quito. Funeral services will be held at Holy Transfiguration Melkite Greek-Catholic Church on Thursday, Dec. 21st. Viewing 9:30-10:30. Funeral 10:30-11:30. Lunch 11:30-1:00. Interment will be at 2:00 PM at Fairfax Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Holy Transfiguration.
