Born in: New York, NY
Resided in: Burke, VA

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Bakalis (Nana), who left us
peacefully on September 11, 2025. Gloria was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-
grandmother, and cherished friend to many. Her unwavering resolve and faith will be
remembered always.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, George, who she has been patiently waiting to
join in heaven, and was finally able to be with him again on their wedding anniversary. She is
survived by her children: Paul, Phil, and Christina; her grandchildren: Georginne, Daniel,
Joey, Kristen, Sara, Austin, and Craigg; and too many great-grandchildren to list! Her family
will forever cherish her memory and carry forward her legacy of strength and tradition.

A funeral service will be held at St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in Springfield, Virginia, on
Monday, September 15, at 11:00 AM, with a brief reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her
honor.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. God rest your precious soul … memory eternal. May you go from glory to glory in the Lord‘s kingdom! We will miss your birthday cards and Christmas cards that you so faithfully sent to us each year. We will remember all the wonderful family dinners we had each holiday around the table with my brother George and you….. you gathered both families and we had so many laughs around the table. Give my brother George a hug for me, HELEN, my husband LOU & our family.

  2. Tina and I celebrate the joy of your embracing our father again, catching up on all you’ve missed together, and feeling the love and comfort of each other’s presence.
Thank you for the great memories of time together as family and as God promises, we will see you and father again.
    In our thoughts always,
    Tina and Paul Bakalis

  3. I, as an Extraordinary minister, always loved going to visit Gloria. She was lively with good advice ; loved talking about her children down to the 3rd level and her wonderful husband, George. I’d go to see her on other days besides Sundays so we weren’t limited by time or breakfast needs. I will miss her so much.
Gloria, remember to pray for me as you promised!

  4. We will remember fondly all the good family times together. The wonderful holiday meals around the table with the Bakalis, Woosley and Waal Families. You, Aunt Mary and my mom, Theresa, are all now together with Nana and Papa. May you rest in Peace as you join your one true love, your husband, George. Michael and Linda Waal

  5. You were one special lady who loved to clown around. I remember when you tried to push my husband, John, into the pool. Surprise…you both went in and had a good laugh over it. Until we meet again, I love you Aunt Gloria.
