Gloria Estevez Romero
(Age 93)
Gloria E. Romero of Mexico City, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2016 at Marisol's home (her daughter) in Poquoson, VA with her loving family at her side. Gloria Estvez Romero was born in Mexico City, November 18, 1922, the daughter of the late Cenovia and Antonio Estvez of Mexico City and Calimaya, Mxico, respectively. She was the youngest of 13 siblings (Felipe, Adela, Pedro, Antonio Jr., Jose, Esperanza, Rosa, Emma, Leonor, Sirenia, Jorge and Alicia). On April 18, 1952, she married Mario Saavedra Romero (World War II veteran) and started her new life in a foreign land ("En el Norte"). Together they raised 5 children (Kris, Mario, Carlo, Rosemaria, and Marisol) in the Washington Metropolitan area. She was married for 49 years to her late husband Mario, and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a dedicated homemaker and anchor of the family, providing stability and a loving environment.
Gloria was known for her awesome cooking (her Mexican white rice in particular) and creative hobbies. She traveled extensively with Mario, specially throughout Europe, the Caribbean and car trips across the US. She was always involved with school activities and loved to share her Mexican culture. She always enjoyed her hobbies such as gardening and outings with her cuatachas (girlfriends). Gloria's favorite past time was to crochet hats, which she donated to the homeless and cancer patients. She could crochet 6 hats per day!
She is survived by five children; Kris and his wife Deletta of Chantilly, VA; Mario and his wife Nancy of Baltimore, MD; Carlo of Falls Church, VA; Rosemaria of Falls Church, VA; and Marisol and her husband Alfonso (Gloria's only son-in-law) of Poquoson, VA; as well as ten grandchildren: Chris (CB), Alex, Maria, Rachel, Carlos, Joshua, Grayson, Garrison, Laurence and Maya; and three great-grandchildren: London, Lincoln and Lillianna.
A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, six to eight weeks from today. Please check your emails for further announcements.
