Gloria J. Wilcox
February 27, 1934 ~ September 26, 2014
Gloria J. Wilcox, of Oakton, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, in Fairfax, VA. after a short illness. She was born in Seattle, WA, on February 27, 1934. She served 27 accomplished years with the U.S. Forest Service and along the way earned an Associate of Business Arts degree from Northern Virginia Community College. She was a member of the Oakton United Methodist Church in Oakton, VA, and for a time served as the president of its chapter of United Methodist Women. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, watching the Washington Nationals, and spending time with her family and friends, and she always had an open cupboard policy with her grandchildren so they could enjoy the abundance of Gummy Bears and Bugles she had ready for them. She was classy, exuberant, and always caring, giving, and unconditionally loving. Her greatest joys were being with her husband and hearing about all the things her family was doing.
She is survived by her adoring and devoted husband, Sterling Wilcox; daughters Cheryl Robarge and Judith Winston and son John-David Wenzlaff; son-in-law David Robarge; stepchildren Seth Wilcox, Poldi Dell, and Susan Cole and their spouses Sharon Wilcox, Jeff Dell, and Stan Cole; grandchildren Matthew, Andrew, Sarah, and Stephen Robarge; and step-grandchildren Rachel Wilcox, Janie and Joe Dell, J.T. Holley, and Tyler Cole. We all will miss her deeply.
The family will receive friends at Oakton United Methodist Church, 2951 Chain Bridge Rd. Oakton, VA on Tuesday, Sept. 30 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Oakton United Methodist Church Kitchen Fund, P.O. Box 205, Oakton, VA 22124. We were saddened to learn of your mother’s unexpected passing. We are praying that the Lord will keep you all strong in this, your time of need. Blessings. Carmen & Earl
Sterling, I am so shocked and saddened to hear of Gloria’s passing. I did not find out until today or I would have most certainly be at the services. You, Gloria, and I were such good friends during our long USFS careers and I really regret that we lost touch over the last several years. My most sincere condolences to you and your family.
